Title: The Way Life Is
Pairing: JongKey, 2min
Summary: After Key's dad dies his mom forces them to move to America. In this new high school, Key finds out the way life is with his new friends. He also finds out how is enemy could possibly become... more?
Key walked a while with Taemin and his dog, even though they talked about random things Key had a lot of fun. Even though talking with Taemin was fun, the heat was starting to get unbearable.
“Taemin, do you think you can take me back to where we met? I’m getting a little too hot, and I don’t really know how to get back to my house…”
Taemin nodded, “How about we go to my house? It’s just a few houses down from here and we can hang out for a little longer.”
“Sure, sounds fine. Not like I have anything better to do.”
As soon as Taemin opened the door it was like Antarctica’s wind had just blown him over, “Cold enough?”
“Yeah sorry about that, my dad likes it cold in here,” Taemin walked in and took the leash off his dog, Amie. “Come on we can go play video games in my room.”
Key followed Taemin up to his room and couldn’t help but notice how quiet the house was. Once they got to the room Key sat on the bed as Taemin hooked up his game console.
“So do you have any siblings?” Taemin asked.
“Nah, my mom never really liked big families. Do you have any brothers or sisters?”
“Kind of… I have a stepbrother, but he isn’t here. My stepmom took him to go see his grandparents for the summer.”
“And they didn’t take you? Aren’t you technically their grandson now too?”
Taemin had finished setting everything up, and sat down in front of the TV looking at Key, “Honestly, I don’t think she likes me very much. I shouldn’t say this, but she’s always a total bitch to me.”
Key laughed, “Sorry, but to be honest, you don’t look like someone who would curse. You look too innocent!”
“Whatever, let’s just play some video games,” Taemin gave a giant smile and sat next to Key on the bed.
After who knows how many hours of video games, wrestling matches, dance offs, and nomming of the pizza rolls, Key finally realized what time it was. The clock read 7:00pm and since it was summer it was still pretty bright outside, but Key remembered his mom got off work an hour ago.
“Shit! Taemin I’m sorry, but my mom got home an hour ago and she probably has no clue where I am. I really need to head home.”
“Its fine you’ve been here for a long time anyways. I’m glad I finally found a friend in the same neighborhood! Here tell me where you live and I’ll probably find it in no time.”
After Key told Taemin where he lived they were off on what seemed like a mini-adventure. Well if you call going on several really creepy streets, jumping over people’s fences, getting chased by several dogs, and nearly getting ran over by a few crazy drivers a mini-adventure then you must be crazy. And for running away extremely fast from a vicious Chihuahua and jumping into Key’s lawn laughing like a pair of idiots, Taemin and Key were pretty crazy.
Once the pair finally calmed down a bit they said their goodbyes and went their separate ways, promising they would see each other tomorrow. When Key got inside he told his slightly worried mother his exciting day and his mom was really happy he made a friend so soon.
As the summer went on Key and Taemin became really good friends. They told each other secrets like the time Key was at a funeral and accidently got gum in the casket and it got in his former principal’s hair, or when Taemin didn’t like Jonghyun at first and put plastic baggies of Amie’s poo in Jonghyun’s(A/N: his stepbrother) pillow case. Key found out things about Taemin like he would be a freshman, which he didn’t know was the first year of high school, and Taemin that was very passionate about dancing. He also found out that he was very protective over the boy, every time Taemin felt down Key wanted to rip out the throat of whoever was responsible.
Taemin even told Key he reminded him of his real mom. Key would always cook his dinner and eat with him whenever his dad came home late, or Key would make sure the house was clean so Taemin didn’t get sick. They even celebrated Taemin’s birthday together, of course Key made the cake. He was really happy someone cared about him because there were times he felt like no one cared, but when school was around the corner Taemin started falling into a depression.
“Come on Taemin, let’s go dance,” Key whined.
Taemin just kept staring out the window.
“Taeminnie~ Come on.”
“Taemin? Yoo-hoo?” Key waved his hands in front of Taemin’s blank face.
“Didn’t you hear me the first time? Come on let’s go dance!”
“I don’t know Key, I really don’t feel like it.”
“Did I just hear you right? Taemin not wanting to dance? Tell me what’s wrong,” Key sat down next to Taemin and nudged his arm with his elbow.
“You know you can tell me anything Taemin, I’m always here for you.”
“Well for starters my stepmom is coming back in a few days, and I’m afraid she’s going to start controlling my life the way she wants it again. Second, I’ve never really had good memories of school. Everyone likes to run over the top of me like I’m nothing, and I’ve even got beaten up a few times. The school system doesn’t do much about it either, even though they have a ‘no bully policy’ they just let it happen. I’m really afraid to go back to school because now that it’s high school I feel like they’ll do more than just beat me up a few times. Third, I have a friend that I really like and there were rumors that I liked them the end of last year and they started ignoring me. It really upset me because I thought they were a true friend, but now I don’t know what to do. I haven’t talked to them the entire summer, and with you here it kind of made things better but… now that I’m going back it really hurts,” Taemin looked up at Key with tears in his eyes.
Key looked down at Taemin, and he looked almost breakable. He wrapped his arms around the small boy and petted his head trying to calm him down.
“It’s going to be ok Taemin, we’ll figure these things out eventually. I’ll even beat whosever ass that tries to bully you, kay?”
Taemin looked up at Key and nodded, he was really glad to have a friend like him.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
